Housing During the six weeks of the UCD Young Scholars Program, students will reside in newly refurbished, air conditioned university dormitories. Housing is double occupancy with separate floors assigned to males and females. Four staff associates live in the dorms with the students, serving as counselors, mentors, and research advisors. Staff members are drawn from the ranks of young credentialled science teachers or graduate students preparing to enter the science teacher credential program at UC Davis. Staff are on duty 24 hours per day and plan a variety of social and academic experiences designed to introduce students to the academic culture of a major research university. Meals Three generous meals
per day are served in the University Dining complex located adjacent to
the dormitory. Students may choose from a wide variety of foods and all
dietary requirements can be met by the food service personnel.
Periodically throughout the program, staff will host special
meals. These are included in the cost of the program. When
field trip schedules prevent participants from eating in the dining
commons, meals will be provided. Transportation Participants are encouraged to bring bicycles to campus for the six weeks. UC Davis is located on the edge of the town of Davis, a very bike friendly community. An extensive system of bike lanes, and bike trails offer relatively uncongested bicycle access to anywhere on campus or in the city. On field trips and program related events, transportation will be provided by UC Davis Fleet Services or UC Davis Charter Bus services. Participants are not allowed to ride in motor vehicles with anyone other than their parents or adult family members (with prior parental permission). Particpants are not allowed to bring motor vehicles to the program. |
